Van Halen Yummy Lunch!

He saw the look of the door
And he didn't know better
Because the place was new
But his taste is unteathered
They made him chips and salsa
enchiladas and queso
The owner said "Are you the Monz?"
"Wow! Welcome to my place-o".
Oh, whoa, woah, Los Volcanes!

Van Halen Yummy Lunch!

I heard the news baby
All about your bad meals
Yeah you may have all you want
But Monz has the taste you need

Ain't talkin about lunch
Your lunch is rotten to the core
You should have headed to bistro 17
For a Tobello called "Por"

You know asparagus is cookin
And on the plate again
At the ceasar side salad you're lookin'
You know in Monz you found a friend

Ain't talkin about lunch
Your lunch is rotten to the core
Monz' lunch, by contrast, was quite tasty
But the service was poor

Ineffible!
Would a Fong's lunch (for example, Singapore noodles with tofu and hot sour soup) taste as good at a Fong's location in, say, Wheaton? We ask because Superdawg, the legendary (and good, if not best dog in town) has opened up a location in Wheeling. Now, Monz and Wheeling go way back but don't always get along -- kind of like your favorite 4 am burito place. We look forward to checking out the new site, but we doubt it can ever match the Thirsty Whale, even if it plays Blackmore on the loudspeakers all day long.

Happy Memorial Day!

While neither the editors nor the Monz have made any endorsements in this presidential campaign, we couldn't help noticing this remark by the junior senator from Illinois:

"We can't...eat as much as we want...and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK."

While the editors have not been able to reach Monz for comment, we suspect that Monz believes you can eat as much as you want this Memorial Day weekend and not overly fret what they think of you in Andorra. Though the Ambassador from Andorra had absolutely nothing bad to say about Monz' lunch of a footlong veggie sub from the former Place, with dijon mustard.

Good Enough for Some!

Friends of the blog may remember when we were taking applications for the Superhero Editor (SE). And while we rejected Floy...ah, we aren't allowed to give away any secret identiies, we're happy to see he has landed a job as Captain Tollway! And if you think we're making this up, stop by an Illinois Tollway oasis this holiday weekend and pick up some Captain Tollway coloring books and crayons!

Monz takes Mrs. Monz and the office staff to Bacci's for a "bunch of brushetta" and linguine pomodoro alla romana.

Pick Up the Pace!

But for Monz and the inspiration of his lunch, this post would not be happening. Why not? Picture this depressing scene: you are at an aging motel in Lufkin, Texas, Mexican AM radio on in the background, loud car and car radio noises randomly punctuating through the walls. Dim lighting. Far from home. Very tired.

Monz dittolunches, with enthusiasm. We were enthusiastic about the following ad copy found on Pace's special edition queso dip or somesuch -- we actually tried it and recommend it to Monz and to you!

>>
Two of these cheeses are pretty hard to find—but that didn't stop
us. Asadero and Queso Blanco are both mild creations originating
in Mexico. The unsung heroes of this dip, they let the jalapeño,
onion and sweet red peppers make a little noise.

MYL Illustrated!

[Editors Note: For the record, Monz hates it when the editors cut and paste his lunch reports, but we hope this added twist will molify him!]

"Picture this: early this morning attempting to put together a delicious ditto lunch when what do I see? Al the Big Z rolls are moldy!!!! Heinous."

"However, a quick trip to Dominick's for some wheat kaiser rolls remedies that and it was yummy."

Biff! Pow! Lunch!

Bam! Monz is back from the weekend, back on the case, and back at lunch: vegan burger from the Whole Foods deli. GIANT "Z Best" bun, with a side of edamame succotash. So yummy, it makes you want to both go retro and hit people!

Up Close & Personal With . . . Monz's Lunch!

Today is the final lunch of this officially-sanctioned guest blogging stint. So I thought I'd do something special. First, I know I couldn't go to some stale same-old lunch place for a stale same-old lunch! I needed something uniques, so I brought a homemade concoction of wild rice and beans! Second, because of all the amazing emails I've received in support of my normal feature, before and after, I knew I needed pictures. Today I bring up . . . Close up of my yummy lunch!

Enjoy! See you next time!

Lunch For Hire!

Many have wondered: few have answered. What is a mercenary lunch? Well, I don't know. But I do know that while in the midst of another heinously busy day I had time to run to Subway for a Foot-Long Veggie Delite on wheat. It was adequate.

Lunch on the Run!

No time for a "regular" lunch today, but a mid-afternoon train trip downtown allows for a trip to Jamba Juice for a Strawberry Whirl (All fruit, no dairy). It was actually filling and a pleasant change for "lunch."

Old Siam, Sir!

Deps all day, so squeezed in a unique lunch at Siam Rice on Wells, downtown. Never been there before, but pleasantly surprised. Had spring rolls, cucumber salad and Woon Sen Pad Thai, which is stir-fried glass noodles with green onions, bean sprouts, yellow tofu, sweet radish, egg, and crushed peanut. Very filling! It will also be my dinner. The only negative? Too many people stuffed in too small a space - and very small tables.

Before. . . And After!

Yes, you read right! It's back! And boy is today's lunch perfect for it. Background: Yellow curry was purchased last night from a new thai place (to me) in Glenview, but I had no time to eat it last night. So this morning I grabbed a plastic bag wrapped container of it on my way out. Well, I must have grabbed the bottommost container because, as it turns out, the lid was wrecked, shredded and smashed. So at some point during the ride to work the container tipped and yummy curry poured out. So what? you're thinking. It was wrapped in a plastic bag! Ah-ha! The plastic bag had a hole in it! Delicious curry all over my back seat!

Behold what was left:

Yum!

Behold what left after what was left:

Dep Prep!

I n the middle of prepping for deps, I remembered the lessons learned yesterday so painfully and went back to Subway for a foot-long veggie delite on wheat, etc etc. It was satisfying in the way only something you ate hundreds of times before can be. I am hoping to bring back some more old faves in the next day or two! Stay tuned!

Desperate Measures Call For Desperate Lunches!

Busy with work and sick of all the usual lunches. So I went back to the Genesee for an LT sandwich and corn soup. Eh. The sandwich was slathered with mayo and clearly some B made it on to the LT. The corn soup was a sodium bomb and they didn't provide a spoon. Next time I feel like experimenting I have to go further afield or stick with an old favorite, which got to be an old favorite for a reason.

The editorial staff checked in in the afternoon and expressed much disinterest in a proposed outing calculated to build "Teamwork" and other important organizational ideals. Hmmmm.

Cinco de Mayo!

In honor of cinco de mayo, the office heads to Bacci's for a working lunch, preparing for depositions next week and settlement conferences. It was yummy -- had bruschetta and a salad.

St Louis Toodle-oo!

On the way to St Louis, we pulled off the road and had . . . a ft long veggie delite on wheat. Just because I've had so many of these things and I am sick of them I had them use mustard and no spices. (BTW, a heated debate was held regarding the merits of Subway, where the chance of us getting sick were slim, vs. Pete's family restaurant, which I wanted because of its uniqueness). Anyway, it was better than yesterday's offering and certainly did not make me sick.

Monz Again!

I am officially filling in for the editorial staff as they take a well-deserved rest to recharge their batteries. Today I bolted over to Subway for a Ft-long Veggie De-lite on wheat. I had a different "artist" and the 'wich was paltry.

Tomorrow I am on the road and the report may be late!
