Hug It Out Lunchers!
The MYL staff is fascinated by the above photograph which accompanied last week's NY Times story about a new phenomenam at our nation's high schools: rampant hugging of hellos. Does this make the places more friendly? Do kids have excess stress ("Do I have BO?" Hugging across genders (you know the question if you're a guy). Etc.) We were particularly struck by the comment of one male student: "we have no fear, we just go in for the hug." That's the way Monz is about his lunch! Like today he had a salad box with hummus and falafel and pickled baby eggplant, beet salad etc topped off with some vegan rice pudding from Maoz Vegetarian, which sits in the food court at Town Center mall in Boca Raton.
"It was good and it was nice to see such an alternative available in an otherwise [lacking] food court. However, I have not researched them and they could be some kind of evil corporation which is insincere. But the people working there were nice and the food was good."

To Infini-Tea And Beyond!
As Monz prepares to engage Florida for study, fun and adventure, we note that back in the day Monz was a fan...well, not a fan, but he did enjoy on rare ocassion partaking in that old tradition of the motherland: high tea. So we note that in McHenry County, Monz might want to stop by Infini-Tea and partake once again. Gotta love places that are only open a few hours a day!
In the meantime, Monz fortifies at home with McDougal's hot sour soup, banana, english muffin (whole grain) and grilled pineapple.

We Kick Our Own Asses!
Today's post takes its title from an ancient teaching of the Monz himself. It seemed appropriate, as even a modesty as great as that of the editors cannot keep us from saying how impressed we are at either 1) our psy-keeek abilities or 2) our intuitive abilities when it comes to Monz' lunch. For when we selected our graphic for yesterday's post, we did not know this was on Monz' lunch agenda: lunch at the Lake County Forrest Preserve's Green Belt Cultural Center: grilled corn, pasta salad, hot peppers, and pickles.

I Lied!
Ah-ha ha ha!! I continue my guest-blogging stint! My one big regret about this blog is that the editors take the weekend off. Really, they could easily do a weekend round up as part of Monday's entry. This all saddens me because my weekend lunches are often more adventurous and interesting than weekday ones. Today I was in Chicago (!!) getting a haircut (!!) and I had lunch at LaSalle Power Company, al fresco. On a street-side seat I had cucumber-watermelon salad, Lobster salad sandwich and deviled eggs. Take that, ordinary weekday lunches!

Over!
This years' guest-blogging stint ends on high note at home with a whole veggie sub from Tony's. Lots of hot peppers and muffaletta make it something to blog about.

Scrounging Yummy Lunch!
Today on recovery patrol I just scrounged what I could from the fridge. Today it was some old bread and a few drops of leftover Coconut soup from this week's thai joint and some giant strawberries that came in the mail. It was filling and good!

Feeling better. McDougall's curry, banana, apple and some dried up clementines. Home now, watching hummingbirds fly around the backyard.

The Longest Lunch!
Because of a lack of groceries, I go to Subway for a ft. long Veggie de-lite. I have everything on it, except O's. I note that the bread is fresh and the lettuce is also. I note that they are putting way less lettuce on than they used to - that's life in a recession, I say to myself. I walk back to the office, past the empty husks of restaurants gone and forgotten: volcanes, Campari, et al. I sit down at my desk, unwrap the 'wich, and dig in. It's not bad. I remark to myself that I need to go shopping soon.

Reflections Of...The Way Life Used To Be!
Monz here. I wanted to start my latest round of guest blogging with a bang! But I can't . . . it's put me in a reflective mood. When this blog started, I was a young, enthusiastic eater of lunch. Today I am still enthusiastic but less young! I think back over the tides and trends of my lunches, remembering vividly the awful fare and lack of selection Cook County foisted on me, to the awful fare and lack of selection in Lake. So, I brought some homemade-last-night veggie chili and a minneola! And it was just what the doctor ordered! I'm ready to go! Buckle up for a freakyride!(tm).
