A quick run down the street to Fong's for a Vegetable soup and Farmer's Market. It was pretty good, definitely no MSG! We definitely will welcome the editorial staff back home for some good old-fashioned blogging tomorrow! Tell us stories!

Before . . . !

Today I had more great plans for an enticing before and after of today's lunch, which was Whole Kitchens Pad Thai and a banana and an apple. But it was so yummy I only got to the before picture!

Start Spreading the News!

As the MYL staff prepares to join the Legal Editor (LE) on his business trip to New York Citynext week, Monz prepares to guest blog! But first we stop to take note of how different Monz is from most attorney snobs, who put you through a test before buying you lunch! Our standing (if limited) offer to take visitors to Waukegan to lunch stands proud and without much equivocation (like, no felonies please). And we'll always tell you about great Monz yummy lunches, like Amy's Indian Samosa Wraps, made with organic potatoes, peas & tofu, plus an apple!

Kids Say the Darndest Things!

The Media Editor (ME) reports that CBS' Kids Nation exceeded expectations, with profound quotes like "Group Hug! You know you want it!" and life lessons like "the three dance moves that will get you through life." (Come on, you know you want it! (at about the 30 second mark)). You know what else you want? Home Kitchens Pad Thai and an apple.

Canada and Monz Save the World!
Monz saves the world by heading to Bacci's for exceptionally yummy bruschetta and linguine pomodoro. Canada saved the world by repelling atomic invaders. We have proof!

Boca del Caballo!

We've Got Mail!

"Dear Editors: Sometimes you refer to a "Monz report," how exactly does Monz report his lunch?

Well, it varries and is at the Monz' pleasure. Sometimes it's smoke signal sparse. Sometimes it's this!

"stuck in dupage this morning, freaking because i'm due in lake at 10:30. out of dupage at 11. call the clerk! get a call as I'm cruising down 88 -- the matter has been set this afternoon! Whew! relax. order lunch while on the road! China Garden - mixed vegetables and white rice! Yum! make it to Waukegan. Swing by the restaurant and there it is waiting for me! Feel the yummy warmth as I drive back to the office. Gobble food while making phone calls. Run across the street at 1:30 for court after having eaten the yummy lunch. deal with court. start drafting order. hmmmm. feel weird. oh no! get a giant rush of lightheadedness! What could it be??? Oh shit! start sweating! crap! The judge is making me wait for a long time while he signs the order... hurry!!!! Need to go to the bathroom.... run out of court...go to office.

wow! Enlightenment! Figure it out!

it was...

TOO MUCH MSG!!!!!!!"

We've all been there, save the lawyerly mastery in the courtroom!

The Bitch Is Back!

It's not just Ernie, Monz is also a counterforce to the misdirection of one Elton John!

Elton: "Don't disgard me just because you think I mean you harm"
Monz: "He doesn't deny it -- disgard anyone who means to do you harm!"

Elton: "Grow some funk of your own"
Monz: "Take a shower, get rid of that funk!"

Elton: "Saturday night's alright for fighting"
Monz: "Saturday night's alright for eating"

Elton: "We'll kill the fatted cow tonight so stick around"
Monz: "Why? It doesn't sound like you're going to eat it, and if you are going to eat it, why not kill the lean calf?"

Elton: "I guess that's why they call it the blues, time on my hands could be time speant with you"
Monz: "No Elton, they call it the blues when there's no "you." Or when you are a drunk smelly bum. Or when you're stuck eating Amy's Indian Vegetable Korma, and an apple, good enough, but you I really want China Garden."

Leno Lovitch!

Monz here for a quick entry expressing my lunch woes: no time and even less energy. But, even though Fong's is in my block, I refrained and rode over to Leno's for a 10" vegwich with extra peppercini's. Yum! Filled me up so I can survive this harrowing afternoon.

King of Canada!
Continuing with Canada Mondays, recently the editors debated which Canadian Prime Minister best embodies the Monz. The dashing Pierre Trudeau? The undefeatable Jean Cretchien? Or William Lyon Mackenzie King, three time Prime Minister and multiple-time seancer, communicating with the spirits of Leonardo da Vinci, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, his dead mother, and several of his Irish Terrier dogs. Maybe we should ask King ourselves!

We also might ask King what Monz can do about his lunch situation, as a crushing workload forces Monz to an unexciting lunch at Fong's with pork-less ma po tofu with some veggies thrown in. And we add to his burdens as the editors will be traveling tomorrow, leaving things in Monz' capable host-blogging hands! L'shanah tovah y'all!

Lunch Is War!
Work (of the "have to be in court makework" variety. Hunger. Boredom. Some of the lesser demonic forces in the world (as we observe the anniversery of more demonic forces). They're no match for lunch! Monz defeats all three by finding time in his busy schedule for a long-delayed trip to China Garden for Mixed Vegetables (and white rice).

Monz picks up the pace with a footlong veggie delite from The Place. Different toppings -- Monz added cucumbers.

Speaking of picking up the pace, this past Sunday a person who is not the Monz, the EIC in fact, played a part in setting a new world's record for the quickest "no!" response to a question. The scene: EIC was talking with an older person of the opositte sex, kind of just being polite when the EIC really wanted to browse around the institution's private library where they were speaking, when a third person, also of the opositte sex but of approximately the same age, walks by with some knitting needles and knitted work-in-progress. See if you can guess the question that led to the world's record that sent the EIC's mood soaring!

What Question Directed to the EIC Led to the New World's Record?
Is this your wife?
"Maybe --she- has a good recipe for pumpkin ravioli?"

Secret Message!

There is Justice in the world! Monz and sundry sillysuiters know what this means. The rest of you will soon! For now, know that Monz lunched at Bacci's for bruschetta and spaghetti pomodoro.

Special Order!

Some things are just right. Like, after a string of Amy's and Fong's, what could reinvigorate lunch originality like a specially prepared lunch from our beloved She Who Cannot Be Named? A "ThinkOrganic" Cranberry Apple raw fruit and nut snack bar
Ricera Rice yogurt, organic peach flavor spaghetti with yummy broc sauce, Flax bread twist from Starbucks (tm) (and we have confirmed Monz likes 'em untoasted) and a homemade vegan brownie. It doesn't even stop there: Jolly Rancher apply candy!

Badda-Bing!When a suave, dashing, but caring gent recommends something to refresh your weary body and mind, it looks something like this. When you take the same description and add the fact that he rocks, it looks like Monz! And Monz' lunch looks like veggie soup and brocolli in garlic sauce from Fong's. Promised to be spicy (the brocolli) and wasn't, but for broc it rocked.

Glorious and Free!
The Science Editor (SE) has determined that condition that rendered Monz lunchless the last several days is a result of a deficiency in a rare but vital enzyme found in abundance in Canada. And since Monz won't go to Canada, we at MYL will bring Canada to Monz, and his loyal readers, with Canadian Mondays!

Today's kahnayleeaydeeah is the story of the Canadian flag. In 1964 the prime minister (Lester B. Pearson) proposed a flag with three red maple leaves set in the middle of a white canvas, blue vertical bars at each end. The most striking feature was the lack of any Union Jacks. The design was unpopular and ridiculed as "Pearson's Pennant," but the Conservative Party couldn't leave well enough alone. In order to ensure that the current, Union-Jacked flag would stay, they proposed the single red maple leaf/red and white design, thinking it would be rejected. The Liberal Party immediately accepted and though the Conservatives tried to back out, it was too late! It's never too late for a lunch rebound, as Monz feasts on a
Gardenburger(tm) portobella mushroom veggie pattie on 12 grain bread, and an apple and then a flax bread twist from Starbucks. We're guessing untoasted.

You There! Back to Work!

Supposedly it's a holiday, but there's still no lunch for Monz.
