To the Moon!

Fong's for shredded spicy "veg." In fact, Monz ishighly suspicious there was some beast mixed in. Wrong, Fong! You did it now! "Gotta start bringing my own lunch... "

To help Monz out, the Food Editor (FE) tried the legendary Moon Soup to see if it could be recommended. Moon soup is a lettuce/mushroom soup that looks like lettuce soup and tastes like mushroom soup. Shroom > uce, if that's your thing.

Loony Loonie! For today's Canada Monday, we note some encouraging news in these dire economic times: the strange phenomena of Canada's current inflation. As you can see from the graph above charting the rise in value of the U.S. dollar vis-a-vis the Canadian, now is a great time to go on a cunnuck shopping spree!

Our post is kinda like Monz' lunch: upon hearing the word on the street that Bistro 17 has closed for good, Monz headed over to County Street Cafe for grilled veggie panini, yogurt and baked Lays, and it was decent!

And a World to Carry On

A Monz family tradition: Russell's for barbeque pork sandwich and "corn-upon-cob".

Please Eat Lunch!
Even if it's just a footlong veggie delight with dijon from the...the downtown Waukegan Subway!

All Day and All of the Night!

Early morning lunch (!) in North Carolina (!!) at a local BBQ joint (!!!) including fried pickle (!!!!) and details lost in voice mail hell (!!!!!)

Hard Promisses!

Tom Petty went down the old King's Road, Monz heads down the Federal Highway to return to the Fifth Avenue Grill. Shrimp cocktail with french dip .

Sha-La-La-La Spring-Roll You Over!

Back in the Sunshine State, Monz and Mrs. Monz head to the House of Siam wherein Monz orders the Shrimp Volcano Plate and insisting on level 5 (out of 5!) hot-ness! Too hot to handle? Not for the Monz! Mrs. Monz goes for the not-too-shabby level 4 Coconut Curry.

Down on the Corner!
While we still have Frank's Diner (above) on the mind, Monz moves forward with life and lunch, heading to Plato's Corner for a garden salad. Neither "boo" nor "rah" for a melancholy Monz.

To Be Perfectly Frank!

The staff traveled to Waukegan to pick-up the Monz, then off to Frank's Diner to continue our attempts to convnince the Monz to become an Interstate Lawyer. Technical dificulties have delayed a pic, but suffice to say all in attendance ordered a 1/2 garbage plate of one sort of another, spotted celebrities who nobody but other diners recognized (including the owners), and hovered around the local museums.

A PB&J at home?! Monz needs a lunch intervention! We're just funning -- nothing wrong at all with a perfectly roasted organic peanut butter spread and fresh strawberry preserves lavished over wholesome whole grain bread. But we are heading up to Waukegan tomorrow for that rarest of treats: lunch with the Monz!

Ask and Ye Shall Receive, Part Deux!
We here at MYL are sometimes acussed of Monz-worship, making the man out to be some sort of flawless paragon of all that is good in the world. Well, almost.... You see, nearly a decade ago, Monz provided the Media Editor (ME) with some disinformation which cost him an autograph of that Free Spirit herself, Corrine Bohrer. This loss has haunted the ME all this time. But now, Monz has just informed us that he has vowed to bid whatever it takes to rectify this grevious error! Thanks Monz!!!

And Monz still found time to head over to County Street Cafe after major meeting, but the offerings were unsatisfactory. Gag me with a broom! So off to Fong's for hot and sour soup and ma pa tofu.

Ask and Ye Shall Receive!

So the editors were attempting to post Monz' lunch when they ran into all sorts of internet problems. Slooooow connection. Head over to Speedtest.net -- 120 kbs? After six hours of this, the Technical Editor (TE) decides to call the ISP, maybe leave an after-hour message. Woah -- live late night support! "Yeah, you're building is way slow -- a couple of people are downloading movies. I'm going to have to strangle them -- what suite are you in, so I don't strangle you." Ten minutes later, we're Audi! Zoom-zoom! And the world is turning into sadists (i.e., Comcast -- infamous internet stranglers!)

You, dear reader, asked for Monz' lunch report: "two pieces of homemade veg-pizza. delightful, cheeseless,s picy and...yummy!"

It stands for "National Advertising Division" and it's a secret star chamber where businesses "self-regulate" their false advertising disputes, hoping the public never finds out. For, you see, companies aren't allowed to speak of their battles at the NAD -- and it costs big bucks to read the full decisions behind the NAD press releases. And since the public doesn't know about the NAD, they don't even read the press releases. But we do! And we here at MYL do not fear corporate retribution if we tell our dear readers about lunch-related NAD rulings.

For example, Burger King recently attempted to lay the smacketh down on Wndy's for their claim "Wendy's. Always fresh, never frozen." It turns out while Wendy's hamburger patties are not frozen, other products are. Plus, in Alaska and Hawaii, even the hamburgers are frozen! So Wendy's agreed to change their ads to be more "burger-centric," and add a disclaimer stating "Fresh beef available in 48 contiguous US and CN."

Monz' lunch is so fresh, disclaimers disclaim it! Bistro 17 for a working (and networking) lunch: "[I will] have something salady and light b/c going to a new office open house party at 3, which will have food."

He did!

From the MYL mailbag:

"Monz can't fool me with all this munificence mumbo-jumbo! Sage advice? Warm, wholesome nourishment? From a man far too wise to the 60's yet a child of the 70's and a transcendant man of the here and now?! Monz is the reincarnation of Yahowha -- Father Yod!

Friends, Monz is many things, but he's not Father Yod. We don't think. We do think that Monz went to Louie's for lasagna (it may have even contained some beast!) and that Mrs. Monz was there and ordered cheese pizza!

And Bring Businessmen Groveling, On Their Knees!

With just two days to go until MYL tears the roof off the sucka, Monz heads back to the CSC for their potato bar, loaded with chili, tomatoes, and jalapeno peppers. "Interesting."

To Please!

As the Legal Editor (LE) puts down his pen and picks up his sword, preparing to fend off the litiganous attacks of big business that are sure to come from this week's expose, Monz returns to the County Street Cafe for an early lunch of cheese pizza. "Ok."

The Tease!

MYL is about to do it again: blow the top off the cover of the corporate world! Because that's how we roll. Monz rolled to the County Street Cafe, but all the jurors got there first so the line was out the door, so he rerolled to Subway for 12-inch veggie sub with dijon that was all right.

Senior Moment!

Yikes -- the newsroom spoke with the Monz earlier today and was so caught up in the lively art of conversation that...that...oh, this is embarassing...that they forgot to ask him what he had for lunch!

"Fong's for some usual stuff"

Da Da Da-Da Da-da-da!

Bistro 17 for a veggie wrap and salad. "Still pretty decent."

The Food Editor would like to take this opportunity to share his secret method for microwaving popcorn! "You must will yourself to sacrifice popping optimization for taste. In other words, you must stop the microwave well before all the kernels have popped, in fact, you must stop the microwave while the kernals are in a "burst burst." Listen carefully and as soon as 1) you are over 50% of the recommended pop time AND 2) you hear the rate of kernel popping begin to decellerate, stop the process and enjoy the near perfection of those kernels which have popped!"

Pale in Comparison!

As the nation awaited the Republican nominee for vice president's convention speech, Monz awaited a 12 inch veggie delight with dijon mustard from Subway, as wella s some Baked Lays. Suffice to say, Subway set a high standard.

Cormac McCarthy Yummy Lunch!

The Monz walked down the road. Dust and darkness surrounded him. He looked up at a sign. Was it a resturaunt, on the road, he used to frequent? Once its proud owner boasted "Los Volcanes." Monz stood on the road. The sign on the window mocked his memory with its cold, transcendent message: "For Rent." Seeking solace in tradition, he walked back on the road to the County Street Cafe and ordered cheese pizza and a caffeine free Diet Coke.

Labor of Love!

Happy Labor Day to all and a magnificient thank you to the munificient Monz for allowing the MYL staff to forgoe their blogging duties and travel to the Gulf Coast to assist in Hurricane Gustav preparations. We also apologize that we are not permitted to answer questions regarding any government weather control program to direct and dissipate the storm which we may or may not have participated in.

To catch up:

Wed. August 27th
High turnover at Subway affects what should have been a standardly-good footlong veggie delight at Subway to merely ok.

Thur. August 28th
Woah! How do you appear on film, further the cause of justice and yummify lunch all in the same day? I guess it's easy if you're the Monz! Lunch on the set consisted of a tuna salad sandwich with cheese and tomato on wg bread with pickle and hot peppers and a Sprite(tm) Zero(tm), followed up with a cookie. We want to see this film!

Fri. August 29th
Fong's was apparently spoiled by Miley Cyrus: a merely ok hot sour soup and ma po tofu.
